In the second half of the 1800s, the department of Gyula was established among the first ones in Hungary. Kalman Pandy, who has been the name of our hospital since 1986, played a prominent role in the start-up. The author tried to search the archives for the last 120 years, to follow how the mental department became psychiatry. Based on the information available about the chief physicians working here, the history of the Gyula mental department unfolds before us.
